Marin News & Community Updates

Here's what's making headlines around Marin this June! Local government initiatives & projects shaping the future of our neighborhoods.

Local Agencies Move to Set Rules as AI use Expands in Public

Belvedere has adopted a new artificial intelligence policy requiring city employees to protect confidential information, disclose when AI tools are used and rely on human judgment in decision-making. Approved unanimously by the City Council on May 11, the policy aims to create clear standards for AI use in city operations, particularly around transparency, accuracy and public trust. As AI adoption grows among local governments, several Marin agencies have recently adopted similar guidelines, while Tiburon has yet to establish an AI-use policy.

Tiburon to Explore AI Traffic Signals

The Tiburon Town Council has approved a $180,000 pilot project to explore installing AI-powered adaptive traffic signals at the Trestle Glen and Tiburon Boulevard intersection to help reduce congestion. The signals would use real-time traffic data to better time lights and improve traffic flow along one of the town's busiest chokepoints. The project, recommended through a transportation and infrastructure study by Parametrix, Inc., still requires coordination with Caltrans, which operates the intersection.
