Richardson Bay Anchorage Nearly Cleared after Decades of Conflict, Cleanup, and Court Battles
A decade ago, the Richardson Bay anchorage was crowded with more than 240 deteriorating liveaboard boats—many sinking or leaking pollutants—costing taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars in cleanup as new vessels kept arriving.
Today, only five boats remain, revealing open water and restored views after years of legal battles and millions spent to clear the area. Officials and environmentalists now celebrate a cleaner bay, with debris being removed and vital eelgrass finally able to recover.
